The Friends of Maga Ta-Hohpi develop and host new activities each year.  Keep an eye on our website for future programs as well.  We constantly strive to find new ways to keep families coming, learning about the environment, and enjoying the outdoors.  We also have a a virtual geo-cache on Maga Ta-Hohpi;

Friends Group Monthly Meeting:  Please come join our monthly meetings at the Huron Chamber of Commerce.  Friends Group meetings are typically at noon on the first Wednesday of the Month.   Join our mailing list to be notified of Friends Group Meetings.  We also have seperate meetings to plan Prairie Fest.

Huron Prairie Fest: Saturday, September 13 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.  Most notable of the events we provide is Huron Prairie Fest, which has become a signature event for the Huron community. Huron Prairie Fest is a free, outdoor event featuring environmental educational programs and hands-on activities for the whole family.   Our theme for this year is birds of prey (raptors).  The Black Hill raptor center will be present at this event and will give a formal presentation at 3:00pm.  Other activities will be available from 1:00 to 3:00 PM.  We will also be unveiling or latest game camera video "Secrets of the Marsh" made possible by local sponsors, the Friends of Maga Ta-Hohpi WPA,  and with a grant from "Captain Planet".  A duck banding presentation is also planned if water conditions permit this activity.

Stargazing for Everyone:  December 13 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  This will coincide with a Geminids meteor shower which will be at its peak on that evening.  The SD Discovery center star lab will also be on site to help beginners learn some familiar star constellations. Telescopes and other night sky activites will be available.  Pre-registration needed to help us plan this event. Binoculars and telescopes welcome.
